The Multicultural Youth Advisory Committee brings together young people (18–30) from diverse communities across Victoria to advise Anasina Gray-Barberio MP on issues impacting multicultural and underrepresented youth.
The committee connects and amplifies young, diverse voices in political, civic, and professional spaces, while helping members build leadership and advocacy skills through workshops, monthly meet-ups, professional development and consultation opportunities.
About Our Members
Syazwani (she/her), 18
Syazwani is a first-generation Malay Muslim migrant passionate about educational equity and multicultural representation. She has extensive experience in youth advocacy, including leadership roles with VicSRC, Headspace, and the Victorian Youth Congress. Syazwani brings expertise in policy consultation, collaborative leadership, and amplifying voices of young people from diverse backgrounds.
Nyayioni (she/her), 24
Nyayioni is a multicultural youth advocate with experience at NAS Recovery Centre, ASPYA Foundation, and other youth organisations. She is committed to creating culturally safe spaces, supporting young people in justice systems, and amplifying youth voices in policymaking. Nyayioni brings lived experience, strong communication skills, empathy, and a focus on mental health, youth justice, and community empowerment.
Taulogomai (she/her), 21
Taulogomai is deeply connected to her Samoan and Niuean heritage and local community networks, including schools and church communities. She is passionate about multicultural advocacy and addressing issues affecting underrepresented communities, particularly access to education and health literacy. Taulogomai brings strong teamwork, independence, and a commitment to community-centered advocacy.
Rumaysa (she/her), 18
Rumaysa is a second-year Monash Law & International Relations student and a Multicultural Youth Advocate with extensive advocacy experience. She co-created TAKEOFF, a careers conference for multicultural youth, contributed to Youth Parliament initiatives, and volunteers with humanitarian and multicultural organisations. Rumaysa is passionate about legal literacy, climate action, social justice, and youth mental health, bringing initiative, problem-solving skills, and strong community networks to the committee.
Helal (he/him), 17
Helal is committed to creating positive change for young people across Victoria. With experience in the Youth Parliament Program and active participation in Fawkner’s Future youth group, he brings dedication, consistent ideas, and a strong sense of fairness to the committee. Helal is particularly focused on challenging stereotypes and ensuring all young people feel valued and supported.
Sarah (she/her), 24
Sarah is the founder and CEO of WWYW Australia, a charity tackling domestic, family, and sexual violence. As a First Nations young woman, she brings an intersectional perspective to advocacy, with achievements including mandating sexual assault training in NSW bars, leading national rallies of over 100,000 people, and influencing legal and community reforms. Sarah is passionate about reproductive rights, justice system reform, First Nations issues, and empowering young people.
